14 Jul Paddle to Pedal: A River and Bike Adventure
Description of Event: This is a multi-event type race with two divisions: a competitive event and a non-competitive fun event. Participants may choose which division they would like to participate in. Participants in the event will use a paddle board to navigate a river challenge down the San Juan River (approximately one and half mile ) to the Verde del Rio San Juan riverwalk park in Bloomfield. Upon exiting the river, competitive participants will transition and race mountain bikes through a multi-lap closed circuit criterium type race within the Riverwalk Park. Prizes will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers in both the men and women competitive division. Non-competitive participants will participate in a fun event on the same course. Conference attendees should bring their mountain bikes and paddle board. If a Conference attendee does not have a paddle board, one will be provided to the first 7. Following the race, a BBQ will be provided for contestants at Riverwalk Park. Adult refreshments will be available.
Meeting Time: Saturday, October 2 at 1:00 PM
Total Trip Time: About 3 hours.
Where to meet: City of Bloomfield Verde del Rio San Juan (river walk); contestants will be led or transported to the San Juan River site (approximately 1 ½ miles up river) where the paddle event will begin.
Directions: from Farmington, proceed on Highway 64 to Bloomfield. At the second intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 550 which goes to Aztec, turn right on South First Street and proceed south ¾ mile to the Verde del Rio San Juan Park.

How long will the event last? 2.0 hours for the event
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult depending on which division the participant enters. Involves paddle boarding at water flowing at roughly 500 cfs and mountain bike racing or leisure riding in a closed course along bike trails and roads.
Terrain: San Juan River and relatively flat bike trails along brick pavers, dirt and asphalt in river walk area
What to Bring? Helmet, Mountain Bike, Paddle Board and personal flotation device. Seven (7) conference participants not having a paddle board will be provided a paddle board.
Group limit: First seven (7) conference participants are free and receive a loaner paddle board to use. All participants must also register and sign a waiver on forms provided and RSVP for the BBQ Registration forms will be available September 15 on City of Bloomfield web site.
Transportation: Will be provided to start area upstream
Age limit: 16 years minimum
Cost per person: No Cost to first seven (7) conference attendees signing up and they will receive a loaner paddle board to use.
$20.00 per person for all others due at registration on forms provided on City of Bloomfield web site by September 15. Registration must be returned by September 22.
